Why the owners love this home and neighborhood
Kenmore home for sale, back then and now for sale again.
We found this home on the first afternoon when looking at several homes with an agent in the Bothell and Kenmore area 41 years ago.
One of us being a teacher, we wanted a home located within the Northshore School District boundaries. Arrowhead Elementary and Inglemoor High School are just minutes away and are both excellent schools. St. Edward’s State Park is located just across Juanita Drive from our neighborhood, and several other parks and Juanita Beach are just minutes by car. The Burke-Gilman trail is just two miles away and makes for enjoyable walks and bike rides.
Bus service is within walking distance. Alternatively, one can drive to the Park & Ride in Kenmore for easier access to Seattle, the UW and, Shoreline Community College.
It’s only a short walk to a recently remodeled QFC as well as a Bartell Drugs, LA/Fitness, Hairmaster, a nice thrift store, restaurants, a bank, and a medical/dental complex. The Kenmore Library is located across Bothell Way and has convenient underground parking.
Our neighborhood is great for walking or jogging. We see many neighbors keeping in shape while walking, pushing strollers, carrying items from the store, or walking their dogs. (We love to walk and often take different routes to enjoy the yards, sunsets in the warmer months, and mountain views in the winter.)
Over the 41 years we’ve lived here, we’ve added space and made many improvements. The master bedroom addition has a sitting area where I enjoyed some sewing and watching a little TV. The bay window lets in a lot of light and offers a pleasant view of our backyard. While it doesn’t have a walk-in-closet, the master bedroom has two closets so we each have our own. A door leads to the deck.
This deck, which just got a new translucent roof, has had many swings over the years. The kids used to go outside to use the swing and play even when it was raining. We usually hung large fuchsia baskets which attracted many hummingbirds, a sight to enjoy while we were enjoying breakfast, lunch or dinner on the deck.
The gas fireplace in the living room and gas stove in the master and the wood stove in the family room are not only warm and cozy but are a true blessing in the case of a power outage.
I must admit that I still love our “dated kitchen” with the harvest gold sink and stove top, the alder cabinets, the tile backsplash and the window looking out onto the deck and backyard. It doesn’t measure up today’s standards but we wanted to leave it up to the new owner to modernize it and install the obligatory granite counter top.
As you can tell, the garden is my husband’s pride and joy. He has enriched the soil with compost for years using the leaves from the trees to cover the garden in the winter. Over the many years, we’ve enjoyed delicious organic fruits, various berries and, vegetables. The abundant harvest filled more than our needs and we were able to share the fruits of our labor with friends and neighbors.
Another reward of the seasons is our plants and flowers. In the spring, Rhodies bloom along the back side fence and during the summer months roses decorate the front, and many annuals and perennials make for a colorful backyard. The maple trees in front offer both beauty and a bit of privacy.
My husband who is in charge of the handyman office and workshop downstairs added not only the greenhouse and equipment shed but also the two-car garage. When we bought the home, there was only a one-car carport. While you can’t walk from the garage into the house, our garage has a unique feature. It is a drive-through garage with a door on both sides so you can drive a tractor or wheelbarrow from one side of the house to the other!
Sadly, the time has come for us to leave this place. We hope that the new owners will enjoy this home, yard and neighborhood as much as we have.
